GAGAUZIA BASHKAN PARTICIPATES IN FORUM IN RUSSIA

20 may, 2016

Positive experience of Gagauzia external economic activity contributes to growth in number of Eurasian integration supporters in Moldova, said Gagauzia Bashkan [governor] Irina Vlah at the international forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective” in Saint Petersburg.

According to the Gagauzia Executive Committee website, she said that the autonomy develops an alternative external economic course, targeted on close cooperation with Eurasian Economic Union (EAES) countries.

“Due to direct contacts with federal supervising agencies, a number of our winemaking, processing and agricultural enterprises got access to the Russian market. Our business people are actively participating in exhibitions and business forums in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nijny Novgorod and other cities of Russia”, she said.

According to her, in 2015 exports from Gagauzia grew by one-fourth, while in Moldova this rate fell. With all this, 60% growth of sales in CIS countries is registered, while Gagauzia’s main trade partners are Russia and Belarus.

“The positive experience of Gagauzia influences public sentiments in the whole country. Only several years ago about one-half of citizens were supporting the idea of Moldova’s accession in the European Union. According to the recent opinion polls, today this opinion is shared only by one-third of our citizens. With all this, the idea of Eurasian integration becomes more and more popular. Already more than one-half of the society stands for the Eastern way of development and their rows are sustainable being replenished”, Vlah said.

The forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective” is attended by Russian Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin and Chairman of the Council of the Federation Valentina Matvienko [the Duma is the lower house of the two-house Russian Parliament, while the Council of the Federation is its upper house].
