MOLDOVA AND UKRAINE SEEK TO STRANGLE TRANSNISTRIA IN ITS EXTERNAL TRADE – TIRASPOL PRESIDENT

20 may, 2016

The main problems weighing upon the Transnistrian economy are the consequences of the international non-recognition of the republic and the restrictive policy waged by Moldova and Ukraine that seek to put an end to the independent external trade by Transnistria, the region’s president Yevgeny Shevchuk stated in his annual address to the Transnistrian people he made on Friday.

Shevchuk said that Transnistrian people and economic operators are constantly subjected to the detrimental influence of a whole complex of stress factors pertaining to the possibilities to run full-fledged external trade, free movement of persons and transport across the border, and the using in other countries of the documents issued by official Transnistrian institutions.

Yevgeny Shevchuk stressed Transnistria badly needs to change its fiscal policy, to create an up-to-date state system of cashless settlements by using credit cards in all commercial institutions and organizations, in the spheres of services and public catering.

The president criticized the Transnistrian supreme soviet [parliament] for its approving the Law on the 2016 State Budget, which he believes is based on money that simply does not exist and is unlikely to ever appear.

Shevchuk fingered also at very dangerous schemes, “when state decisions are taken exclusively by commercial organizations because their ideology in fact broadens the possibility of interpenetration of private businesses with state agencies, which merger contradicts to the basic principles of state governance”.

Yevgeny Shevchuk believes it is necessary to perfect the institution of the legislative power to build up its efficiency “because the mandate of a deputy is perceived by some parliamentarians as a voucher for impunity and as a legitimization of idleness”.
