​RUSSIA TO OPEN 22 POLLING STATIONS IN TRANSNISTRIA FOR DUMA ELECTIONS

The Russian Federation will open in Transnistria 22 polling stations for the September 18 elections to the Russian State Duma [parliament], including 2 stations – specially for peacekeepers and for the military from the Operative Group of Russian Troops (OGRV) in the region, Transnistrian central election commission chairperson Yelena Gorodetskaya stated on Tuesday following her meeting with a Duma delegation led by MP Artiom Turov of Yedinaya Rossiya [United Russia] governing party.

According to the official website of the Transnistrian supreme soviet [parliament], the Russian lawmakers came to Tiraspol specially to discuss preparation to the elections and questions of cooperation with Transnistria’s leading Obnovleniye [Renovation] Republican Party.

Supreme soviet speaker Vadim Krasnoselsky thanked the guests for coming despite their being busy in their election campaign.

“It is symbolic that Yedinaya Rossiya has opened its permanent office in Tiraspol today. This is an extra proof of the strengthening ties of friendship between the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic and the Russian Federation, with which all Transnistrians pin their hopes for the future”, said Krasnoselsky.

The CEC chairperson said that 9 polling stations will be opened in Tiraspol, 5 – in Bendery city, two each in Rybnitsa and Dubossary, and one each in Kamenka, Grigoriopol, Slobozia and Dnestrovsk.

“Over 180 thousand residents of Transnistria are eligible to take part in Russian elections. Preparation to the Russian parliamentary poll is going on successfully. The program of preparation to the election has been agreed on with the Russian Embassy in Chisinau”, said Yelena Gorodetskaya.

Turov voiced satisfaction and said that every citizen of Russia, every vote matters. He stressed that it is necessary to create all conditions for every voter to express their position.

As already reported by Infotag, at the previous election of the Russian State Duma, Russia opened 25 polling stations in the Republic of Moldova territory, including 24 – in the territory of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. Then, the polls were attended by 52 thousand citizens of Russia, and two-thirds of them cast ballots for Yedinaya Rossiya.
