​NEW YORK FORUM SPEAKS FOR CONVERTING TRANSNISTRIAN PEACEKEEPER OPERATION INTO OSCE CIVILIAN MISSION

The need for launching a constructive dialog on transforming the current peacekeeper operation, continuing in the Transnistria Security Zone [for more than two decades now], into a multinational mission of civilian observers under an international mandate of the OSCE was confirmed by the participants of a high-level conference on the consolidation of the civilian management of crises – strengthening of the OSCE potential in conformity with the United Nations Charter (Chapter VIII).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reported that the event, which was organized on the sidelines of the ongoing 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, was moderated by the OSCE CiO, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The event participants discussed possibilities of strengthening of cooperation between the United Nations and the OSCE on consolidation of the civilian potential of managing crisis situations.

In his address to the forum, Moldova's Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur spoke out for developing the OSCE potential of conducting civilian peacekeeper operations in the context of efforts to settle conflicts in the OSCE area, including in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.
