NEITHER TIRASPOL NOR MOSCOW ARE CONSIDERING TROOP WITHDRAWAL – SHEVCHUK

08 december, 2016

“A strong army and reliable time-tested partnership with Russia are the best guarantee that there will be no necessity to take up arms in defense of our republic once again”, Transnistrian president Yevgeny Shevchuk stated at the congress of the Union of Motherland Defenders held in Bendery city Wednesday.

“Lately, our neighbors have been disseminating rumors about the allegedly soon removal of Russian peacekeepers from Transnistria. I want to assure you that neither Transnistria nor Russia have ever considered such possibility. The Russian peacekeepers have been and shall further be guarantors of peace on our land”, stated Yevgeny Shevchuk.

In his words, the chief thing what the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic has managed to preserve over years is the mutual understanding and mutual respect in the Transnistrian civil society.

“The Transnistrian people are demonstrating unity and consolidation for good purposes and would not yield to the Western technologies of desecration and blackening. Today our country is going through the complicated period of an election campaign. Unfortunately, some irresponsible politicians are trying to drive a wedge of discord in our society, to spread seeds of mistrust and discord, including by using dirty methods. Some [presidential candidates] are trying to use the force of fear through intimidation or voter bribing. I am sure that the Transnistrian people will overcome this ordeal with honor”, said presidential candidate Yevgeny Shevchuk.
