MOLDOVAN PREMIER HOPES FOR PROGRESS IN TRANSNISTRIA SETTLEMENT IN 2017

20 january, 2017

Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip voiced hope at the press conference that progress will be achieved in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process in 2017.

“I want to tell all citizens that country reintegration through resolving the Transnistrian problem has always been and is remaining in our field of vision. Last summer, after a 2-year-long pause, we managed to resume discussions in the 5+2 format, and achieved certain successes in various fields [e.g. in the activities of Chisinau and Tiraspol expert groups]”, said the Prime Minister.

Filip commented on the statements made by President Igor Dodon during his official visit to Moscow this week concerning his intention to try and settle the Transnistrian conflict through federalization of the Republic of Moldova.

“I want to say to those who are under an impression of the latest statements on this issue: the Government and Parliament will be abiding by Moldova’s previous line on Transnistria. We will have no hesitations in this”, stressed Pavel Filip.
