07 february, 2017

Transnistria stands ready to optimize its trade with the European Union, including indeed with Germany, but only with a due account of the region’s peculiarities, Transnistrian president Vadim Krasnoselsky stated in his meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Moldova Ulrike Knotz here on Monday.

The parties discussed the development of interaction between Transnistria and Germany in trade and economic sphere, including in the context of the perspectives of further work to optimize the mechanism of trade between Transnistria and the European Union.

Speaking of the settlement of Transnistria-Moldova relations, Krasnoselsky said that Tiraspol has been geared up for continuing discussion and for a joint quest for solutions for pending problems.

Ambassador Ulrike Knotz appreciated the broadening of ties and invigoration of interaction between Transnistria and international partners, and underlined that for Germany the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is an important topic.

The German Ambassador had a meeting also with the leadership of the Transnistrian supreme soviet [parliament]. Victor Guzun, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee for foreign policy and international ties, said after the meeting that the German visitors wanted to hear more about how Transnistria will be building its joint work with the new Austrian OSCE presidency in 2017.

“For us, deputies, the most important thing is to solve the problems of our voters. These are: recognition by Moldova of Transnistrian education and other documents, of Transnistrian license plates with motor vehicles, the freedom of movement of persons and cargoes”, said Guzun.

Ambassador Ulrike Knotz was received also by Transnistria’s Chief Negotiator, minister of foreign affairs Vitaly Ignatiev, who voiced gratitude to Germany for its active participation in the Transnistria-Moldova negotiating process in 2016 in the status of OSCE presidency. In his words, the German diplomacy managed to clearly define a whole list of sharp problems in relations between the conflicting sides and to impart a certain impulse to the dialog “which unfortunately faded away shortly after”.
