​PROCEDURE OF TRANSNISTRIAN CARS CUSTOMS CLEARANCE SIMPLIFIED

The Government simplified the procedure of placing vehicles with license plates issued in Transnistria and Bender under customs regime of import and their registering into State Information Resources Center “Registru”.

The Government’s decree concerns persons, who owned the above-mentioned transport means or had used them until November 1, 2016. They can have the cars cleared by the customs regardless of their term of exploitation, paying only 30% from the excise tax cost, established in 2016. For this, applicants have to fill out customs declaration under personal responsibility and written evidences about the authenticity of information, contained in annexed confirming documents.

Before, according to the legislation, owners of vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers were demanded to present the original document, on the basis of which the vehicle got in Transnistria. These documents were almost impossible to be provided. Besides, this should have been made before February 1.

Last year, Moldovan insurers sold policies for 16 thousand automobiles with Transnistrian numbers. Most of them are regularly circulating in the territory of mainland Moldova on the basis of letters of attorney, issued in Transnistria. According to the Government decision, the movement of cars with Transnistrian numbers, driven by persons, permanently residing in mainland Moldova, will be prohibited starting from April 1. Owners of such vehicles are obliged to register them in Moldova until April 1.
