GAGAUZIA PARLIAMENT APPROVES NEW GOVERNMENT MEMBERSHIP

17 february, 2017

The Gagauzia Popular Assembly (GPA) has approved on Friday a new Gagauzia Executive Committee. 21 of 30 present MPs voted for this decision.

Almost two hours, MPs and autonomy Bashkan [governor] Irina Vlah, as well as a number of her subordinates cannot agree how the new members should be elected – each official in part or in a list. Vlah insisted on voting altogether, stating that candidatures were sent to MPs in advance and they had the chance to express their opinion before the sitting.

“I want MPs to understand the responsibility before electors for the unjustified and degrading defamatory statements. You are humiliating not me or Executive Committee members. You are humiliating our people, who put their trust in you. You are undermining autonomy external partners’ trust”, Vlah said.

Answering to the question if all the GEC members speak Gagauz language, she said that 15 members are Gagauz people.

“There is one Russian, two Bulgarians and two Moldovans among Cabinet of Ministers’ members. Four of government members are Doctors of Science, while seven – have two higher education diplomas each”, she said.

One of MPs recommended to those of Executive Committee members, who do not speak Gagauz language, to go to free language courses that opened in Maria Marunevich Scientific and Research Center.

Some deputies refused to vote for the new GEC due to the fact that it includes three officials – chairpersons of raions, who were elected but not appointed.

For the first time, GPA deputies received portable computers – tablets, aimed at receiving documents in electronic form.
