DISCUSSION OF TROOP WITHDRAWAL QUESTION IN UN SHOULD FACILITATE TRANSNISTRIA SETTLEMENT – PREMIER FILIP

22 september, 2017

An open and correct discussion in the United Nations of the question of foreign troop withdrawal from Moldova should facilitate the achieving of a viable solution for the Transnistrian conflict, believes Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

He spoke out such an opinion in the course of his meeting in New York with Miroslav Lajcak, the Chairperson of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Filip repeated the Moldovan authorities’ request to include the troop withdrawal question into the Session Agenda, stressing that Chisinau does not want to politicize the problem of the presence of Russian troops and armaments in the Republic of Moldova territory, but has been long and persistently standing for removing them – in conformity with the 1999 OSCE Istanbul Summit Accords. In his opinion, an open international discussion of the question on the United Nations platform would be useful for Transnistrian conflict settlement.

Pavel Filip congratulated the Slovakia Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajcak upon his election as the Chairperson of the UN General Assembly Session and wished him success in this quality. Filip assured Moldova supports the United Nations Organization reform efforts and promotion of decisions meeting the interest of the mankind.

As already reported by Infotag, Slovakia renders essential permanent assistance to Moldova in realization of reforms. In 2019, Slovakia will be presiding in the OSCE.
