TRANSNISTRIAN CENTRAL BANK DEPRECIATES LOCAL RUBLE BY 3%

The Transnistrian central bank established a new official exchange rate of US dollar - 16 rubles, raising it by 0.5 rubles (3.2%).

According to the bank's website, he3 explained this by the fact that the available partner countries' forecasts about inflation and national currencies depreciation in 2018, given the accumulated real strengthening of the Transnistrian ruble, as well as the forecast of the negative balance of the payment balance current transactions lead to the need of further depreciation.

According to the bank, the change has a planned character and corresponds to parameters of currency corridor 16-16.5 rubles per US$1, established by the Main directions of the 2018 general state monetary policy.

Infotag's dossier: This is the third raising of the official US dollar against the Transnistrian ruble since the beginning of 2017. First time it was raised in late June, almost by one-third at once - to 15 rubles from 11.3 rubles per US$1 under the pretext of the need of coming out of the economic, financial and currency crisis in Transnistria, which occurred due to the former president Yevgeny Shevchuk and his team. The second time the exchange rate grew in November - by 3.3% - to 15.5 rubles per US$1.
