PMR RECOGNITION IS A TECHNICAL ISSUE THAT WILL BE RESOLVED - TIRASPOL LEADER

22 january, 2018

The recognition of the Transnistria's independence is not an illusion, but a technical issue and when the time comes - it will be resolved, maintains president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan republic (PMR) Vadim Krasnoselsky in an interview to the Russian "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" newspaper.

According to Infotag, it does not exclude that the issue will be resolved as it was done in Kosovo.

Commenting on the statements by Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu, who called Russian troops in the Moldovan territory "occupational forces", Tiraspol leader reminded that Transnistrians regard the OGRV a guarantor of peace in the PMR.

"At the recent discussions in PACE in Paris, where Transnistrian representatives were invited, we put a taboo on the topic of the Russian military presence. Knowing our position, other dialog participants neither raise it in talking with us. Usually, Moldova was the one that is raising this issue. We completely excluded it from the agenda. Europeans know it, thus they do not speak about this", he said.

According to him, the Operative Group of Russian Troops is the basis of peacekeeping operation in the region, these are members of the peacekeeping battalion as well.

"Moreover there is such an unresolved issue as ammunition depots of the former 14th Soviet army, located in the territory of Transnistria. If something detonates there - there will be big trouble both for Moldova and Ukraine. This could have long happened, had not been the OGRV, which is guarding the depots", Krasnoselsky said.

With all this, he recognized that from outside, the stores are being guarded by the Transnistrian military as well.

As for the reasons of his visit to Moscow, the Transnistrian leader said that this was connected with foreign policy and economic issues.

"Thus, the first I met was Grigory Karasin [Russian Deputy Foreign Minister], which was attended by representatives of our Ministry. We discussed the issues of external perimeter, the achieved agreements and came to a conclusion that these should be fulfilled while guarantors and mediators should guarantee this. After that, I met with Russian President's Special Representative on Transnistria, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin. We outlined the perspectives of work for this year", he said.

Krasnoselsky refuted information about phenomena that have never happened in Transnistria before - for example, pensioners' protests.

"We do not have any protests. There is opposition in the face of the Communist Party. As for pensioners, they do not pay for communal services and the natural gas. Russia is paying to us for the transit of gas through our territory and this money is used for paying the pensioners' bills", he said.
