​TRANSNISTRIAN FOREIGN TRADE TURNOVER GOES UP BY 28.2%

In January, Transnistria’s foreign trade turnover exceeded US$124.6 million, which is by 27.2% (US$27.4 million) more than last year.

According to the customs committee of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (PMR), in January, export increased fourfold - US$44.6 million and import – by 30% - to US$80 million.

The main export item became shoes and parts of shoes – US$21.1 million; during the year its export increased eightfold; foodstuff and raw materials come next – US$5.8 million (-11.2%), and then the former undisputed leader – fuel and energy products – US$5.2 million (-US$57.6 million), mainly electricity of the Kuchurgan GRES.

Though, they provide more than 40% of import in the region – US$35 million (-6.1%). First of all – Russian natural gas. The second import item is steel metal and products made of it (i.e. scrap metal – raw material for the Rybnitsa Metallurgical Plant) – US$8.8 million, against US$1.4 million in January 2017. Engineering products are on the third place – US$8.2 million.

Russia remains Transnistria’s main trading partner Крупнейшим торговым партнером – US$42.7 million (+ 2.2% million). Import from the Russian Federation amounted to US$37.4 million (- 4.2%), and export to the country – US$5.3 million (+ 93.6%). Ukraine is on the second place – US$19.4 million (+ 90.7%), and Moldova I on the third place – US$11.7 million (–36.2%).

Import and export to the EU countries has doubled – US$12.6 million and US$24.3 million respectively.
