CHISINAU AND TIRASPOL FAIL TO AGREE IN TIME ON TRANSNISTRIAN VEHICLE PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL TRAFFIC

01 march, 2018

The term of elaborating the mechanism of Transnistrian road transport participation in the international road traffic should be prolonged, agreed political representatives of Moldova and Transnistria Cristina Lesnic and Vitalie Ignatiev after the sitting of expert groups on transport and road infrastructure development in Chisinau OSCE Office.

According to the PMR foreign ministry’s website, the meeting completed intensive wide discussion of the problematic of Transnistrian road transport participation in the international road traffic, which took place on February 21, 26 and 27.

“The attention of experts and political representatives was focused on discussing samples of license plates. The sides also continued the discussion on a complex of other technical aspects of the final agreement, which is essential expression of road transport problematic”, says the Transnistrian foreign ministry, saying that the sides decided to continue active discussion of the mechanism.

As Infotag has already reported, at the November 2017 meeting in 5+2 format in Vienna, the sides agreed to coordinate and sign an arrangement on the mechanism of Transnistrian vehicles’ participation in the international road traffic. However, despite intensive negotiations especially in February, experts failed to agree on license plates for the Transnistrian vehicles. Moldova does not accept any Transnistrian symbolism on plates and insists on registration and issuing of numbers in Chisinau. Tiraspol representatives have an opposite opinion.
