TIRASPOL LEADER CRITICIZES MOLDOVA'S "ONE-SIDED NEUTRAL STATUS"

21 march, 2018

The president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (PMR), Vadim Krasnoselsky, has criticized the Moldovan leadership's "speculations about some kind of a neutral status Moldova allegedly has".

On Tuesday, Krasnoselsky held a meeting with the power, law enforcement and fiscal agencies of Bendery [a major city situated on the right, 'Moldovan' Dniester River side, but remaining under Transnistria's control] and underlined that "all this talking about neutrality is continuing against the background of the opening of a NATO Office in Chisinau and the regular participation of the Moldovan military in NATO exercises.

"I admit, all this is no hindrance to the neutral status of a state because joint military exercises are not prohibited, and a neutral status permits to do this. Prohibition applies only to foreign military bases. Who has a military base here? Russia has. President Dodon constantly says clearly, including in his latest interview, that as soon as we resolve the Transnistrian problem, the question of the Russian military presence here will get solved all by itself. Russian troops will be withdrawn from here. What a one-sided neutrality, isn't it? These sweet words smell somewhat perfidious", believes Vadim Krasnoselsky.

He criticized also "the pretended pro-Russia orientation of the Moldovan President, who overtly stands for Russian troop withdrawal from our land, for liquidation of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic as such, who is already renouncing the federalization idea, and is speaking of a special legal status i.e. of a reservation for Transnistrians".

The Tiraspol leader stated that the legal systems of Transnistria and Moldova do not permit even to speak of changing the form of existence because both republics are unitary states.

"We cannot violate the legislations of our states, otherwise it would be a state crime, a treason and a surrender of the interests of your nation. When you hear sayings like "the elites are not able to agree', this is not true because all actions must proceed from the legislation in force. Proceeding from our legislation, we have no right to resort to integration, or to a federalization, or to a special legal status. On the basis of the Transnistrian constitution, we can speak only of an independent state called the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. We are no longer fighting for our independence - we are just maintaining it because we have achieved independence and are now seeking an international recognition of it", stressed Vadim Krasnoselsky.
