MOLDOVAN DEPUTY PREMIER AND CoE REPRESENTATIVES DISCUSS MEASURES TO BUILD UP CONFIDENCE BETWEEN CHISINAU AND TIRASPOL

12 april, 2018

Moldova’s Special Representative for Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Country Reintegration Cristina Lesnic met on Wednesday with Anna Capello, Head of the Confidence Building Measures Division of the Council of Europe's Directorate of Political Affairs, and with Political Adviser Mirtia Murdja.

According to Moldova’s National Bureau for Country Reintegration, the main topics of their conversation were questions related to the implementation of projects on confidence-building measures financed within the framework of the 2017-2020 RM-CE Action Plan approved by the CoE Committee of Ministers on February 1, 2017.

The interlocutors also made a review of some successful projects under way currently, such as e.g. seminars for teachers of English from both Dniester River banks that were held last August and November at the European Center for Foreign Languages in the Austrian city of Graz.

The parties pointed out the need to develop projects to improve interaction between civil society organizations from both Dniester banks and to promote human rights in the Transnistrian region, with an emphasis to be placed on the protection of the rights of children, socially vulnerable population groups and persons with limited possibilities, as well as the observance of all universally recognized citizens’ rights.

The interlocutors paid tribute to the recommendations and remarks made in 2016 by Council of Europe experts in their report on ensuring a normal functioning of Latin-script Moldova-administered schools in Transnistria. Lesnic stressed that these recommendations will be taken into a due consideration by the profiled agencies of the Republic of Moldova.

The parties welcomed the Council of Europe’s initiative to organize in June a Youth Peace Camp for young residents of both Dniester sides.
