CHISINAU AND TIRASPOL REGARD TRANSNISTRIAN VEHICLE REGISTRATION AS PRIORITY

13 april, 2018

Moldovan and Transnistrian political representatives Cristina Lesnic and Vitaly Ignatiev participated in a next sitting of working groups for automobile transportation and road infrastructure development with the participation of international partners in the “5+2” negotiation format in Chisinau OSCE Office on Thursday.

According to the Moldovan Bureau for Reintegration, the sides are trying to seek a solution for the problem of registering Transnistrian vehicles for their participation in international road traffic.

“The issue of accepting the Transnistrian road vehicles in the international traffic and the need of elaborating a viable mechanism for this was approved within the 5+2 negotiation format and is one of eight priorities in the so-called package “Berlin+”, the press release says.

The sides agreed upon the need of continuing dialog both at the level of experts and at the level of political representatives for identifying viable solutions.

As Infotag has already reported, during the December 2017 meeting in Vienna, Chisinau and Tiraspol undertook to find solution for the issue of participating of Transnistrian automobiles in international traffic before the end of 2018. For this, the OSCE developed special registration numbers, which will meet Moldovan legislation and will be recognized at the international level.

Last week, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated that the sides are close to elaborating a solution. Year to date, 11 meetings on discussing this problem have been conducted already. These are taking place almost weekly in Chisinau and Tiraspol. The next meeting will take place next week.
