TIRASPOL INSISTING ON SOONEST-POSSIBLE HOLDING OF 5+2 MEETING

Transnistria is insisting on a soonest-possible holding of a 5+2 format meeting to thoroughly discuss topical questions from the negotiation agenda, Transnistrian minister of foreign affairs Vitaly Ignatiev stated at the press briefing following the Tuesday’s signature of the Protocol Decision “On the Participation in the International Road Traffic of Transnistrian Motor Vehicles, not Involved in Commercial Activities”.

Among the document’s main advantages Ignatiev highlighted the provision that the neutral license plates will be available for all residents of Transnistria without exception, including the ones having a dual citizenship. Tiraspol’s chief negotiator also underlined the volunteer character of acquiring neutral plates, and also the rule that for receiving such neutral plates, Transnistrian motorists will have to part with their Transnistrian plates.

“We will be doing our best for settling other problems, too, in such a detailed and concrete manner – for the sake of citizens and their interests”, said Vitaly Ignatiev.

According to the Protocol Decision made public by the Transnistrian ministry of foreign affairs, Transnistrian motor vehicles will be permitted to participate in the international road traffic not only upon obtaining the said neutral license plates but also only upon obtaining Vehicle Registration Certificates from the jointly-run registration offices to be situated in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa, as well as of stickers MD to be attacked to the car’s rear.

Judging by the document, the mechanism of vehicle registration may be used also by legal entities with a permanent legal address in Transnistria, including the ones running external trade activities, except commercial passenger transportation.

As was already reported by Infotag, OSCE Special Representative on Transnistria Franco Frattini stated during his recent visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol that in case of signing the said Protocol Decision, the next 5+2 format meeting may be organized already in May.
