TARACLIA MAYOR RESIGNED BECAUSE OF MASS POISONING IN CHILDREN'S CAMP

04 july, 2018

Taraclia Mayor has resigned because of mass poisoning of children in the summer recreation camp called "Tchaika". He wrote this on social networks.

"I RESIGN. I take full responsibility for what happened. There were hard times, but there was not meanness. I would like to thank the ambulance staff, the Taraclia Health Center, the Food Safety Department, Taraclia chief physician of Taraclia Regional Hospital, infectious diseases doctor, hospital medical staff and clinical laboratory for the efficiency and care of children. I am sincerely begging forgiveness! I am the father of three, and I know what parents felt. I'm so sorry", wrote Filipov.

As already reported by Infotag, a week before the mayor's resignation, 33 children aged from 7 to 14, resting in the summer recreation camp "Tchaika", were hospitalized as a result of poisoning. All the children had fever, they complained of weakness, headaches and stomach pains.

Filipov resigned after the Health Ministry reported about the investigation results of mass poisoning of children. The specialists came to a conclusion that the cause of poisoning was an intestinal infection, while the reason for its occurrence was failure to follow hygienic standards and poor control by the camp management.

The inspection revealed that the summer camp was opened without a sanitary permit; the camp personnel had not undergone medical examination; they used water from unsafe sources; moreover, the pre-processing and cooking rules had not been observed.

The summer recreation camp "Tchaika" was opened on June 20. There were 100 children and 22 personnel.
