MOLDOVA AND TRANSNISTRIA SOLVING MEDICINE IMPORTATION PROBLEM

04 july, 2018

The problem of medicines importation into the Transnistrian region was discussed by Moldova's Special Representative for Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Country Reintegration Cristina Lesnic and Transnistrian minister of foreign affairs Vitaly Ignatiev, who held a meeting in the Tiraspol Office of the OSCE Mission to Moldova on Monday.

According to the Transnistrian ministry of foreign affairs, the main question of the conversation, which lasted over 3 hours, was the problem of importation of medicines into the Transnistrian region via the Cuciurgan border-crossing station.

Answering journalists' questions after the meeting, Vitaly Ignatiev said that this is an obviously humanitarian problem that requires an immediate and compromise-like solution.

"The problem is not even in the quantity of medicines that make the difference between the Moldovan and Transnistrian state registers - the problem is in the fact that even if 1% medicines in them do not coincide, than somebody will not receive the necessary medical assistance, and this may tell negatively on the person's health and personal security. Our objective is to eliminate problems in this humanitarian sphere", said the Tiraspol's chief negotiator. Cristina Lesnic said that the medicine importation proceeds from the Republic of Moldova Register that is based on European standards.

"We don't create obstacles. We want all medicines to be certified and meet all requirements", said Cristina Lesnic.

Moldova has stated that starting from July 18 the supply of medicines to the Transnistrian region via the Cuciurgan station, controlled jointly by Moldova and Ukraine, will be possible only upon their certification in Moldova.
