MOLDOVAN GOVERNMENT TAKES MEASURES FOR PROVIDING TRANSNISTRIA WITH MEDICINES FOR TB AND HIV TREATMENT

26 july, 2018

The Moldovan Government took measures for providing the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (PMR) with medicines for treatment of tuberculosis and HIV patients. These measures are stipulated in the resolution, adopted at Wednesday’s governmental meeting.

According to the available data, about one third of the number of tuberculosis and HIV-infected people registered throughout Moldova live in Transnistria. At the same time, the provision of medicines for this category of patients is in critical situation, as by August 2018 all the medicines will have been already used.

According to the Bureau for Reintegration, the adopted decision will create a necessary normative base for providing the Transnistria region with medicines and treatment tools necessary for prevention, control and treatment of people suffering of these dangerous diseases.

According to the document, a mechanism for providing dispensaries and specialized centers in the eastern regions of the country with anti-tuberculosis and antiretroviral drugs will be introduced, as well as diagnostic devices for the treatment of tuberculosis and HIV. This will be done through the relevant departments of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection after signing relevant contracts, with full payment of costs of purchased things and overhead costs in the amount of 5% of the goods value, which will be used to ensure appropriate conditions for their preservation.

The Bureau also notes that until 2018, the PMR needs were fully covered by grants from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Starting from 2018, they should be covered by the regional resources.

“At the same time, optimal preconditions have been created on both sides of the Dniester for the approval of a single plan on prevention and control of HIV and tuberculosis, because of the Global Fund conditions, which requires development, approval and implementation of the 2020 sustainable development plans in this area with a gradual transition from external funding to national state budget”, stated in the message.
