ONE OF TRANSNISTRIAN EX-PRESIDENT’S SUPPORTERS DETAINED IN MOLDOVA

One of associates of former Transnistrian president Yevgeny Shevchuk, ex-minister of the interior and ex-chairman of the customs committee Gennady Kuzmichev was detained within a special operation in Moldova.

According to sources in law enforcement agencies, the arrest of Kuzmichev was agreed with representatives of Tiraspol law enforcement structures, which have long declared him wanted. The detaining was conducted within the investigation of six criminal cases, initiated against Shevchuk a year ago.

During the operation, Kuzmichev’s car, which entered the country via Leuseni checkpoint, was blocked from two sides. He was pulled out of the car, laid on the ground, then brought to a SUV and the car left in an unknown direction. On the same day, Kuzmichev was transmitted to the Transnistrian side and placed in a prison in Hlinoe village (Grigoriopol raion). In Transnistria he is wanted for contraband.

Before, ex-head of the Bender administration Iury Gervazyuk was detained according to an equivalent scheme in Anenii Noi raion of Moldova in February 2017. He was accused of abuse of power. He was condemned to 10 years in late 2017.

Infotag’s dossier: Gennady Kuzmichev began to play an important role in the separatist enclave after Shevchuk came into power in late 2011. Being head of the department for combating banditry, he was almost sentenced for extortion. Cuzmichev for the first time headed the united agency in the Ministry of the Interior and the State Tax Committee. Kuzmichev has a son – Maxim. In 2015 he was declared internationally wanted by the Moldovan police on charges of blackmailing and creation of an organized crime community. At that time Maxim Kuzmichev was heading PMR department for corruption combating. He was detained in Athens to be extradited to Moldova, but later Kuzmichev Jr. got in Russia. According to some data, Yevgeny Shevchuk with family is also living in Saint Petersburg now.
