GAGAUZIA GOVERNOR PROPOSES TO INSTALL CAMERAS AT ALL POLLING STATIONS

18 september, 2018

Gagauzia Bashkan Irina Vlah addressed to the Gagauzia regional election committee with a proposal to install video cameras at all polling stations of the autonomy.

According to the Gagauzia Executive Committee website, the proposal was also discussed at the sitting of the GEC apparatus.

Vlah reminded that almost each national and regional election is accompanied by accusations from the side of electoral competitors and observers of attempts of falsifications during the voting, the bulletin counting and protocol compiling.

The Bashkan recalled the elections to the Gagauzia Popular Assembly (GPA) in the 10th constituency in Vulcanesti.

“We witnessed how persons who were not included in voters’ lists of the 10th constituency were trying to vote there. After the polling stations closed, members of one of stations tried to rig the poll by means of including wrong data in the protocol. Such flagrant incidents should become a thing of the past forever”, Vlah said.

According to her, the video supervision will ensure a complete transparency and legitimacy of the election process in the autonomy.

She ordered first Deputy Chairman of the GEC Vadim Ceban to assess the cost of works and seek sources of financing for installing cameras.

As Infotag has already reported, Vlah proposed to hold the Bashkan elections on February 17, 2019 (a week before the parliamentary elections in Moldova) and intends to run for the second mandate.
