TRANSNISTRIAN MOTOR VEHICLES WITH NEUTRAL-DESIGN LICENSE PLATES WILL START TRAVELLING ABROAD ON OCTOBER 9

05 octomber, 2018

Transnistrian motor vehicles, having neutral-design license plates and documents issued in conformity with the Moldovan legislation, will be eligible to participate in the international road traffic and go abroad starting from October 9, 2018 as per the Law on registration of certain transport means and on amending some relevant legal acts, Moldova's National Bureau for Country Reintegration has reported.

The Bureau has reminded that the responsibility for observing the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic lies on the state that has registered the motor vehicle participating in the international road traffic, whereas the control over ensuring the Convention observance is carried out in conformity with the Moldovan legislation.

As was already reported by Infotag, the Protocol Decision "On the Participation in the International Road Traffic of Transnistrian Motor Vehicles, not Involved in Commercial Activities" was signed by the Chisinau and Tiraspol Political Representatives on April 24, 2018 in Bendery city in the presence of the Ambassador Michael Scanlan, the then-Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, and the representatives of the 5+2 negotiating format actors.

The document stipulated that such motor vehicles shall have neutral-design license plates (like in Moldova - having 3 letters of the Latin alphabet and 3 figures) and the vehicle license [aka 'technical passport' locally] agreed upon by both Sides, and shall be observing the norms of the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. The re-registration of Transnistrian motor vehicles and plate issuance are done in two offices in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa staffed with the employees of Moldovan constitutional institutions and of the Transnistrian administration.
