05 november, 2018

The wine festival "Gagauz Sarap Yortusu" was marked with great pomp in Gagauzia on Sunday. It gathered thousands of autonomy residents and foreign guests, including the participants in the 4th International Forum Invest-Gagauzia, which took place in Comrat on Saturday.

"We are again holding the wine festival, which demonstrates the richness of the Gagauz culture. Guests, who came to Gagauzia, will see how hospitable is our people, how tasty are our dishes and our wines", said Gagauzia Bashkan [governor] Irina Vlah at the festival opening ceremony.

Chairman of the Gagauzia Popular Assembly (GPA) added: "Wine is Gagauzia people's forte and trump card. The winemaking is the Gagauz economy basis, while sitting at the table with a glass of good wine, you can solve any problem".

President of Moldova Igor Dodon stressed that it is necessary to create all the conditions to develop the winemaking branch, as well as to preserve traditional and to open new sales markets for exporting Moldovan wines.

"Such events as the Wine Festival are playing an important role in preserving and promoting the popular traditions of the people of Gagauzia and entire Moldova, as well as our country's image abroad. Due to the winemaking branch, the Moldovan economy is developing. Our wines are known and preferred in many countries. Our goal is to create all the conditions for developing this branch, for preserving traditional markets for exporting the Moldovan wines, as well as for opening new sales markets. We are doing this and we will keep doing this for our country's future", Dodon said.

He said that within the recent meeting with the Russian president Vladimir Putin, they achieved an important agreement in relation to Moldovan winemakers.

"Thus, starting from January 2019, the customs services on supplying of Moldovan wines to the Russian market will be cancelled, which will allow raising many-fold the volumes of sales to this country", Dodon said.

Representatives of Gagauzia winemaking enterprises, as well as some enterprises of other regions of the country participated in the 2018 "Gagauz Sarap Yortusu" Festival. Also, the inns of various localities and Gagauzia administrative bodies were presented within the event. Besides traditional cuisine and wines, in each inn the guests enjoyed the presentation of rites, theatrical performances and workshops on producing wine and creating barrels.
