TRANSNISTRIA FOREIGN TRADE TURNOVER INCREASES BY A THIRD

By the beginning of November, Transnistria's foreign trade turnover reached US$1.578 billion, which is by 33% more compared with the equivalent period of 2017, and corresponds to the level of January-October 2010.

According to the customs committee of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (PMR), export increased by 39.6% (according to the new methodology of the customs statistics) - up to US$588.8 million and import - by 29.3% - to US$990.5 million.

Almost half of the export was provided by metals and metal goods - US$254.6 million (+48.3%); fuel and energy products come next - US$99.1 million (+14.6%), mainly electricity supplied to Moldova. The third export item still includes foodstuff and raw materials - US$98.6 million (+83.5%).

Energy resources dominate in imports (basically Russian gas) - US$359.6 million (+37.8%). As a rule, the second import item is steel metal and products made of it (i.e. scrap metal - raw material for the Rybnitsa Metallurgical Plant) - US$198.7 million (+46.8%), and engineering products - US$109.5 million (+31.6%). Russia is Transnistria's largest trading partner, the turnover of which has increased by 35.4% over the year, and exceeded US$449 million by of the beginning of November. Import from this country amounted to US$389 million, and export - US$59.9 million, i.e. 6.5 times less.

Ukraine is on the second place - US$361.1 million (US$238.6 million and US$123 million respectively). Moldova comes next - US$273.6 million (US$98.7 million and US$174.8 million).
