TRANSNISTRIA PROBLEM TO BE DISCUSSED IN MOSCOW NEXT MONDAY

22 november, 2018

On November 26, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov will meet in Moscow with OSCE Special Representative on Transnistria Franco Frattini, Maria Zaharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced at her traditional weekly press briefing on Thursday.

According to her, the interlocutors will exchange opinions on the issues included into the agenda of the forthcoming Milan Meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers, on Transnistrian conflict settlement and on other questions presenting mutual interest.

The 25th Meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers will be held under the Italian OSCE Presidency in Milan on December 6-7. Russian Minister Sergey Lavrov has already confirmed his participation in that forum. During that Meeting, the OSCE Presidency will go to Slovakia.

This year, Franco Frattini visited the Republic of Moldova 3 times, meeting with Transnistrian conflict settlement participants in both Chisinau and Tiraspol. On his initiative, a round of the 5+2 format negotiations was held in the Italian capital last May, when the parties signed the Rome Protocol. By now, the Sides have already fulfilled most of the obligations stipulated in that document. Perhaps, the most important of them was the one on including Transnistrian private non-commercial motor vehicles into the international road traffic. Starting from past September 10, they have been receiving neutral-design license plates permitting them to go abroad.
