PREMIER FILIP MEETS OSCE PA SPEAKER GEORGI TSERETELI, SPEAKS OF RUSSIAN AMMUNITION WITHDRAWAL FROM TRANSNISTRIA

Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip has urged the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to take a more active part in the process of Russian ammunition removal from the Kolbasna military warehouses in Transnistria "that present danger for the whole region", Filip stated on Monday in his meeting with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Chairman Georgi Tsereteli, on a visit to Chisinau.

The interlocutors focused mainly on Transnistrian conflict-related issues, on measures to consolidate trust between the two sides of the Dniester River, and the forthcoming parliamentary election in Moldova.

The Premier informed the OSCE PA Speaker about the progress achieved last year in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, and stressed that Chisinau will spare no effort to preserve the current achieved dynamic of the negotiations. He highly appreciated the international partners' contribution to the settlement process promotion in the 5+2 negotiating format.

Georgi Tsereteli confirmed the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's readiness to back Moldova in its efforts to peacefully resolve the Transnistrian dispute. He welcomed the Moldovan authorities' intention to hold a free, fair and transparent parliamentary election with the observance of all international standards.

Election-related questions were discussed also in the meeting Georgi Tsereteli held with Moldova's Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi, who called the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to delegate its observers to the February 24 parliamentary election in Moldova.

The interlocutors also highlighted the valuable contribution made by OSCE parliamentarians to the promotion of reforms aimed at consolidation of democratic institutions in Moldova, of a law-governed state, human rights observance, and to the organization and holding of a free and fair parliamentary election.
