TRANSNISTRIAN MFA EXPLAINS TASKS SET BEFORE ITS REPRESENTATION IN MOSCOW

The Transnistrian ministry of foreign affairs has confirmed the opening of the “Official Representation of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic in the Russian Federation” in Moscow on January 22.

The ministry wrote on its official website that the Representation is an element of the system of Transnistrian diplomatic service bodies, and that it carries out the following functions: it represents the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic [PMR] in its relationship with foreign states and international organizations; participates in working out the policy and measures to expand trade and economic and financial relations, scientific, technological, cultural and other exchanges with foreign states and international organizations.

Besides this, “The Representation is call to ensure the PMR’s participation in the activities of various international and regional organizations, conferences, fora etc; to promote the distribution in foreign countries of information about the PMR’s external and domestic policies, about the country’s socio-economic, cultural and spiritual life”.

The Representation will also be promoting Transnistrian goods and services to international markets, maintaining direct contacts with Russia’s state power bodies in Moscow, exchanging information between Transnistrian and Russian official agencies, preserving and developing the culture of the peoples of Transnistria and its integration into the Russian and world culture.

The official Chisinau has condemned the opening of the Transnistrian Representation in Moscow, claiming that it inflict damage to the Moldova-Russia relations.

However, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regards as lawful and justified the appearance of the Transnistrian region’s representation in Moscow because according to documents this is a non-commercial organization called the Foundation for Social and Cultural Ties “Pridnestroviye” [Transnistria].
