IGOR DODON OPTIMISTIC ABOUT SITUATION FOR RESOLVING THE TRANSNISTRIAN CONFLICT

30 july, 2019

Presently, a most favorable situation is taking shape for a joint achieving of a political solution of the Transnistrian problem, President Igor Dodon stated at the official solemn meeting held on Monday on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova.

He underlined that the Main Law has fixed the principle of the country’s permanent neutrality, and that a strict adherence to the principle is a fundamental condition for resolving the Transnistrian problem and for re-integration of the country.

“Taking into consideration the internal consensus of the political forces presented in the government of the country and the support being rendered to the parliamentary majority by our Western partners, by Russia and other external forces, I believe that a most favorable situation is taking place for a joint quest for a political solution of this problem”, said Igor Dodon.

“The overcoming of this problem could become a diplomatic success for our foreign partners taking part in the 5+2 negotiating format. At the same time, it is necessary to continue the realization of joint projects together with the Transnistrian region for resolving the social problems faced by its residents”, said the head of state.

Speaking of Moldova’s demographic problems, Igor Dodon named the de-population of the country as the chief threat for its very existence.

“If we continue investing huge State resources into the development and education of generations of young people, who become an intellectual capital and a labor force for foreign economies, we may eventually vanish as a nation”, the President warned and said that in the nearest days he will launch the drafting of a national plan for resolving the country de-population problem.

“The overcoming of the population emigration problem should become a stimulus for the country’s economic growth because the chief impediment to economic agents’ activities is the shortage of manpower. There is a wish and possibilities to invest in the Moldovan economy, but potential investors come across an acute shortage of workers. The chief wealth of our native country are the peoples of various ethnic groups living in peace and accord on this land together with Moldovans for many centuries. The solution of emerging problems of our society is possible only in the conditions of its consolidation and unification of the efforts of all citizens irrespective of their ethnic affiliation”, said the President.
