19 september, 2019

Moldovan Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii is convinced that the Transnistrian problem needs a peaceful and lasting political settlement. She stated this on Wednesday during her meeting in Chisinau with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger.

The Speaker welcomed the visit being paid to Moldova by the OSCE Secretary General and said she perceives the high guest’s coming as a signal of support for the new Republic of Moldova leadership and the Moldovan society as a whole.

“The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is remaining Moldova’s key partner in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. A peaceful and lasting political settlement is an unconditional imperative”, the Moldovan Speaker said, stressing in this context the importance of measures to strengthen confidence between the residents of both Dniester River banks.

Thomas Greminger said the Republic of Moldova may serve a good model of negotiations in the OSCE area.

“The promotion of national minorities’ rights, the development of the Gagauzia autonomy are also promoting the creation of favorable conditions for the Transnistrian conflict settlement”, said the OSCE Secretary General.

Thomas Greminger highly appreciated the Moldovan State’s efforts to promote women’s rights, including struggle against violence and raising women’s political representation in various bodies and organizations.
