MOLDOVAN MFA CONDEMNS “PROVOCATIVE ATTACKS FROM UN TRIBUNE”

24 september, 2019

The Republic of Moldova Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration “has perceived with alarm and indignation the address made by Leonid Manakov at the 42nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, in which he, on behalf of the Transnistrian people and by request of the Transnistria leadership, called the world community to recognize the independence of the Transnistrian region as a subject of international law”.

In its Statement on the issue, the Ministry wrote that such kind of addresses “may undermine the 5+2 negotiation process that is aimed at achieving a comprehensive peaceful and lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict with the observance of the Republic of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and with provision of a special legal status for the Transnistrian region, as it has been stipulated in corresponding OSCE documents”.

In that connection, the Ministry repeated the Moldovan authorities’ address to the Russian Federation leadership to put an end to the activities of the disputable “Foundation for Development of Social and Cultural Ties “Transnistria””, opened in Moscow at the beginning of 2019, bearing in mind that this office actually functions as the official representation of the self-proclaimed and internationally unrecognized republic in the Russian Federation.
