MOLDOVA COUNTING ON INTERNATIONAL INSPECTION OF MILITARY DEPOTS IN KOLBASNA

27 september, 2019

Questions of annihilation of the ammunition, stored at the Russian military depots in the Transnistrian village of Kolbasna, which should be preceded by an international inspection of the facilities, were discussed on the sidelines of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York between Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicolae Popescu and OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger.

Minister Popescu confirmed the priority attention, which the Moldovan leadership attaches to the question of Russian troop and armaments withdrawal from the left Dniester bank, and highlighted the importance of the OSCE-provided assistance to this.

Thomas Greminger confirmed the OSCE’s invariable commitment to achieving progress in a political peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.

The interlocutors considered also other questions of the Moldova-OSCE cooperation such as the organization of free and fair elections, struggle against human trafficking, freedom of expression and other.

As was already reported by Infotag, Transnistria president Vadim Krasnoselsky is convinced that the destiny of the Russian military equipment stored at Kolbasna is to be decided exclusively by Russia and Transnistria. According to unconfirmed information, there are about 20,000 tons of weapons and ammunition kept at Kolbasna, and the arsenal presents a serious threat to this whole region of Europe.
