MOLDOVA WILL SIGN NO DOCUMENTS THAT ARE CONTRARY TO ITS INTERESTS – PREMIER

03 octomber, 2019

Moldova and its official representatives are not going to sign any documents or liabilities that are contradictory to Moldova’s national interests, said Prime Minister Maia Sandu at the press conference following the Wednesday’s Government sitting.

This was her answer to journalists’ question about the possibility of signing a document that implies creation of two separate legal entities within a single state at the next round of 5+2 negotiations in Bratislava.

Sandu said that she has many times discussed the Transnistrian settlement with Deputy Premier for Reintegration Vasile Sova, as well as with European officials.

“A political decision is possible only with observing Moldova’s territorial integrity. Unfortunately, currently there are no internal or external conditions for immediate solution. All we can do is fight against corruption schemes, smuggling through the Transnistrian region. I hope that in the nearest time we will sign protocols with Ukraine to raise the number of joint control on the border”, she stressed.

The premier said that she stands against the federalization of Moldova.

“This is impossible without the support from parliamentary majority and we lack it on this issue. Besides, this is impossible because most citizens are against the federalization”, Sandu said.

This year the 5+2 negotiations were frozen due to parliamentary elections, the political crisis and change of power. This year’s first round of negotiations will take place on October 9-10 in Slovakia, which holds the chairmanship in the OSCE.
