PARLIAMENT SPEAKER PROMISED TO ADOPT PACKAGE OF GAGAUZ BILLS BEFORE DECEMBER 23

The Moldovan Parliament will try to adopt the Gagauz draft laws before December 23, when the autonomy will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Gagauzia, said Speaker of the Parliament Zinaida Greceanii at the Wednesday’s meeting with Chairman of the Gagauzia Popular Assembly (GPA) Vladimir Kyssa in Chisinau.

They discussed pressing issues of Gagauz autonomy functioning and the interaction between the GPA and the Moldovan Parliament.

Kyssa said that the issue of considering Gagauz draft laws is the main problem of the current moment. He reminded that it is about the local public administration, the country’s administrative-territorial structure, the decentralization and making changes and additions to the Law on Special Legal Status of Gagauzia (Gagauz-Yeri), developed by the joint working group of the Moldovan Parliament and the GPA with participation of international experts.

The Gagauz Speaker stressed that the unanimous position of the legislative and executive branches of power in the autonomy is to adopt these laws in their initial version, agreed with Gagauzia’s deputy corps and supported by President Igor Dodon.

Greceanii assured the colleague that these bills will be considered by the new Parliament. Also, negotiations with all factions will be conducted for adopting the documents before December 23.

The sides also discussed the resumption of the activity of a joint working group with participation of the newly-elected Moldovan MPs.
