U.S. AMBASSADOR DERECK HOGAN VISITS TRANSNISTRIA, MEETS KRASNOSELSKY

01 november, 2019

The United States will promote finding a common language at the next week’s Bavaria Conference on confidence-building measures in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, the United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, Dereck Hogan, stated during his meeting with Transnistria president Vadim Krasnoselsky held in Tiraspol on Thursday.

Hogan said he will personally head the American delegation to the Bavaria Conference. In his words, he understands the goals to be achieved by negotiators and stands ready to discuss all details. “We want to accomplish the process launched in Bratislava, and we from out part will be promoting this”, said the diplomat.

Vadim Krasnoselsky welcomed the U.S. active participation in the 5+2 negotiating format’s work, “whose representatives are fully aware of the negotiation progress, whose slowing down in 2019 is a generally known fact”.

In his opinion, the shortcomings, permitted to happen at the level of experts and Political Representatives, told adversely on the outcome of the Bratislava meeting held in October, and no Final Protocol of the meeting was signed.

“Had the Political Representatives and expert groups scrutinized all questions inside out, things could go much smoother in Bratislava. The Protocol is a final point, its non-signature is a consequence, and the reason of all that are the shortcomings permitted at the preliminary phase. The 5+2 format stakeholders should now work on errors. This work has already started”, the Tiraspol leader said, and expressed hope for the activity of the international Mediators and Observers, “including certainly the Americans”.

Krasnoselsky stressed that it is not the number of signed agreements that matters, but the quality of their realization.
