JCC CO-CHAIRMEN TO HOLD CONSULTATIONS AT CHISINAU OSCE OFFICE ON DECEMBER 17

13 december, 2019

Next Tuesday, the Moldovan, Transnistrian and Russian Co-Chairpersons of the Joint Control Commission (JCC, the supervisory body for the Joint Peacekeeping Forces) will hold consultations at the Chisinau Office of the OSCE Mission to Moldova with participation of the representatives of Ukraine, it was decided at the JCC ordinary working meeting held in Bendery city on Thursday.

According to Moldova’s National Bureau for Country Reintegration, Tiraspol representatives again refused to discuss the proposal on checking and analyzing the situation in the Security Zone after the Transnistrian side had deployed there its extra ‘border’ units and invested them with broader plenary powers.

Transnistria’s JCC Co-Chairman Oleg Belyakov agreed that working consultations at a neutral platform are needed for approximation of the Sides’ positions on questions of mutual interest. But he believes that Moldovan colleagues should stop politicizing the question of the Transnistrian border guards’ presence in the Security Zone.

The Transnistrian delegation perceived the Moldovan delegation’s new address as “obviously partial and aimed at an ungrounded accusation of the Transnistrian side of its alleged militarization of the Security Zone”.
