23 december, 2019

The festivities on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Gagauz autonomy formation took place on Sunday in Comrat.

According to the regional media, Chairman of the Gagauzia Popular Assembly Vladimir Kyssa said that December 23 was a life-changing date, saying that the Gagauz people have been striving for independence, for preserving their language and culture during its entire history.

“The acquisition of the statehood became possible due to the unity, the courage of all leaders and the persistent struggle of the Gagauz people. The path that has been travelled was risky and dangerous, but the time demonstrated that the founding fathers were on the right track” the GPA Speaker said.

Bashkan [governor] Irina Vlah said that Gagauzia’s 25th anniversary is widely celebrated not only in the autonomy, but also in Moldova, as well as in Russia and Turkey.

In her opinion, a quarter of a century ago the Gagauz and Moldovan people renounced the using of force in resolving the interethnic conflict and agreed to build their future within a sovereign and independent Moldova.

Ex-President of Moldova Petru Lucinschi said that the Gagauz people is a wise people.

“Today it is a special day for me also. The 25th anniversary of Gagauzia is in the best way demonstrating that what we have created is not only living, but os developing”, Lucinschi said.

The autonomy leadership received a congratulation message from Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, the President Vladimir Putin’s Special Representative for Trade and Economic Relations with Moldova.

“I am sure the extension of business and humanitarian connections between the Russian Federation subjects and Gagauzia will contribute to strengthening the age-long historical bonds between our people”, the message says.
