AUSTRIAN DIPLOMAT APPOINTED AS OSCE SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE ON TRANSNISTRIA

Austrian diplomat Thomas Mayr-Harting has become the OSCE CIO's Special Representative on Transnistria conflict settlement, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama announced in Vienna last week.

Thomas Mayr-Harting replaced on this post prominent Italian diplomat Franco Frattini, who had been OSCE's Special Representative on Transnistria for 2 years - during the Presidencies of Italy and Slovakia.

Thomas Mayr-Harting is well informed on the Transnistrian conflict settlement problem. In 2016-2017 he visited Chisinau and Tiraspol and participated in the 5+2 format negotiations and held meetings with the Republic of Moldova leadership and the Transnistria's administration. In that period he was the Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service (EEAS EURCA) and in that quality he represented the European Union in the 5+2 format negotiations.
