24 january, 2020

The harmonization of the current Protocols on joint control in 6 customs stations at the Ukrainian-Moldovan border in line with international agreement between the two countries, as well as the preparation for organizing joint control in checkpoints Platonovo-Goianul Nou and Cuciurgan-Novosavitskoe (railroad), drafts of new protocols, were the main topics of discussion at the Thursday’s meeting of Head of the Ukrainian Customs Service Sergey Deineko and European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) Head Slawomir Pichor.

According to the Ukrainian customs service website, another topic of discussion was the agreeing of the mechanism of implementing the Article 9 of the intergovernmental agreement. The meeting participants agreed on the need to again hold the internal procedures for preparing the package of necessary documents for signing.

At the end of the meeting Deineko thanked his interlocutor for the EUBAM’s contribution to establishing interaction between the border police agencies of Ukraine and Moldova, expressing hope for further help of European experts, as new threats at the border are appearing permanently, and to confront them is the task of all law enforcement structures of the two countries, but not only the border police.

Infotag’s dossier: The Platonovo-Goianul Nou and Cuciurgan-Novosavitskoe (railroad) are located at the Transnistrian section of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. The authorities of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan republic are against the conducting of control by Moldovan and Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, regarding this as a new wave of economic blockade.
