RUSSIAN DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER RECEIVES TIRASPOL LEADER

29 january, 2020

The current shape and perspectives of the Transnistria negotiation process and the results of the Bratislava 5+2 format meeting and of the OSCE Bavaria Conference on Transnistria were discussed in Moscow on Tuesday between Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Rudenko and the president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The Ministry’s Information and Press Department reported that the parties stated the continuing deceleration of the implementation of the accords reached previously between Chisinau and Tiraspol, and emphasized the need to further work on the unsolved questions remaining between the Dniester River sides. They expressed readiness to speed up the preparation of a new 5+2 format meeting with the assistance of the incumbent Albanian OSCE Presidency.

According to the Transnistrian presidential press service, Vadim Krasnoselsky explained the deterioration of the negotiation progress with the fact that “Chisinau is refusing to meet its previously-assumed commitments and is pressing on Transnistria”. He informed the Russian colleagues about Moldova’s recent attempt to restrict the traffic of Transnistrian motor vehicles, and that Chisinau is continuing its blocking of Transnistrian enterprises’ accounts in Moldovan banks.

“These and other actions are proving convincingly that Moldova is not ready to hold dialog in an adequate and constructive matter”, said the Transnistrian leader.

The interlocutors discussed in detail the available possibilities for the development of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Transnistria, touched on the questions related to the simplified mechanism of acquiring the Russian citizenship for Transnistria residents and on invigoration of the Russian-Transnistrian inter-ministerial interaction.

Rudenko and Krasnoselsky also discussed the entire scope of the multifaceted Russian assistance to Transnistria in order to support the socio-economic stability in Transnistria, including essentially the assistance to veterans of the Great Patriotic War before the approaching 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.
