TRANSNISTRIAN PARLIAMENT APPROVES NEW SCHEME OF ELECTORAL CONSTITUENCIES

20 march, 2020

The Transnistrian supreme soviet has adopted a new lay-out of the electoral constituencies, where region residents will be voting at the ordinary parliamentary elections at the end of November.

The layout was worked out by the region's central election commission upon the reduction of the number of constituencies due to the decision taken by the supreme soviet to diminish its strength to 33 parliamentarians from the previous 43.

There are 412,437 voters registered in Transnistria. The average norm of representation per a deputy has been increased up to 12,498 voters after the reduction of the number of constituencies.

Next November 29 will be the so-called 'combined voting day', when Transnistrians will be electing deputies not only to the supreme soviet but also to various-level local councils.

The supreme soviet's resolution on approving the new layout of electoral constituencies will enter into legal force on September 3 when, according to the regional election code, an election campaign will begin in Transnistria.
