The people’s advocate Mihail Cotorobai called on the Ministry of Justice to organize a sitting of the working group for human rights in the process of Transnistrian conflict settlement to discuss the problems, faced by the region’s residents in the context of measures, undertaken for combating Covid-19.

In a letter to Minister Fadei Nagacevschi it is proposed that not only branch experts from both sides of the Dniester River, but also representatives of mediators and observers in the 5+2 negotiation format.

According to the ombudsman, in conditions of the state of emergency, introduced in Moldova since March 17 due to the threat of spreading the coronavirus, it is highly necessary to closely monitor the fulfillment of human rights and freedoms including in the Transnistrian region.

He said he receives signals both from the Promo-LEX human right association, and from representative of ombudsman in Varnita about the supposed violations of human rights and problems people face in the context of measures, taken by Transnistrian authorities to prevent the spread of infection in the region.

The ombudsman also directed a letter to his Transnistrian colleague Veaceslav Kossinsky with a request to help in resolving problems, in particular with people’s access to workplaces, the places of residence, bank institutions on both sides of the Dniester River, as well as centers of family physicians.
