STATE OF EMERGENCY IN TRANSNISTRIA TO BE EXTENDED TILL MAY 1

31 march, 2020

The supreme soviet [parliament] of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan republic (PMR) will gather on Wednesday for the second extraordinary sitting since the beginning of the month.

According to the decision, issued by the PMR parliament’s presidium on Tuesday, the tomorrow sitting’s agenda is made of only one issue: approval of amendments to the president’s order on the state of emergency. At the previous sitting on March 18, MPs approved the order on introducing the state of emergency in Transnistria until April 5. This time, the parliament will have to approve the amendments to it, which extend the state of emergency to 45 days that is for 26 days more – until May 1.

Also on April 1, the ordinary sitting of the supreme soviet will take place, where the MPs have to consider urgent draft laws. These imply measures of supporting citizens, who are subject to additional risk in conditions of the coronavirus infection spreading. Among these there is draft of state target program directed to preventing HIV/AIDS infections for 2020-2024.

“The state of emergency does not cancel the work of the supreme legislative authority. We should continue financing the state target programs. It is important to support people with cancer, those with tuberculosis, with HIV/AIDS”, supreme soviet chairman Alexander Korshunov said.
