TIRASPOL AUTHORITIES NOT GOING TO LET MOLDOVAN MEDICS THROUGH TRANSNISTRIAN TERRITORY

02 april, 2020

The Moldovan medical employees, who happen to live on the eastern [Transnistrian] side of the Dniester River, have been placed before a choice: either you continue working in the Republic of Moldova territory [western river side] and reside there for the state of emergency period, or you take a job in the Transnistrian health sector.

Such an address was made public today by Denis Podgornii, the press secretary of the Transnistrian president, who explained that “in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic announced by the World Health Organization, of the mass-scale spread of the novel coronavirus disease, and of the state of emergency introduced in the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic [PMR], we just cannot provide you the possibility of free border crossing and of making daily voyages from one country to the other”.

In his words, this restriction has been conditioned with “the mass-scale virus spread in the territory of the neighbor state [Moldova] caused by the fact that Moldova failed to take in due time all necessary restrictive measures, and, as a result, the number of coronavirus-infected medical workers in the neighbor state is growing daily”.

“In such a situation, we cannot permit a systematic contacting of the Moldovan medical personnel – the potential carriers of the infection – with citizens of Transnistria. In this situation, you have to make a choice: either you continue working in the territory of Moldova and temporarily reside there (the political representatives of the neighbor state, speculating actively on this topic, can provide an accommodation to you), or you get employed – purely voluntarily – in the PMR health system, work and reside in the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. We guarantee remuneration of you labor”, the official assured, and added: “Neither we nor you have the right to jeopardize the health and lives of Transnistria citizens”.
