MFA CONDEMNS OGRV FOR INVOLVING CHILDREN INTO PARA-MILITARY ACTIVITIES

16 june, 2020

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has condemned the Russian military deployed in Transnistria for their “involving children, residing in the conflict zone, into activities of military orientation”.

The Moldovan Ministry stood up with a Statement writing that last week, within the framework of the holiday events dedicated to the “Russia Day” national holiday, the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRV) deployed in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova organized the enlistment of new 10 juniors to the Red Star group of the all-Russia military-patriotic movement “YounArmia” [Young Army], who were sworn in.

“This is a part of other daring actions by the OGRV, whose deployment and activities in the territory of Moldova without the country’s consent and against its will is a violation of the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, and this is incompatible with international law norms”, wrote the Ministry.

It reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova’s position on the need to transform the current military peacekeeping operation on the Dniester into a multinational mission of civilian observers under an international mandate.
