FARMERS OF GAGAUZIA START GRAIN HARVEST

Harvest of the first group grain crops starts in Gagauzia. Head of the agribusiness department Andrei Dimitroglo told Gagauzinfo.MD that first of all they will collect barley, then rapeseed, peas, and winter wheat.

“According to preliminary estimates, the yield of the first group of cereals will be three times lower than last year’s indicators. The harvesting campaign will be difficult, because many farmers have low-growing winter crops”, the specialist explained.

Some enterprises in the Comrat raion have already started to collect barley, the average yield of which does not exceed 1 ton per hectare.

According to preliminary estimates, the damage to the first group of cereals caused by drought in Gagauzia will amount to 280 million lei. The shortage of grain is estimated at 100 thousand tons.
