OSCE MISSION HEAD MEETS WITH TRANSNISTRIA LEADER

01 july, 2020

Banking and telecommunication issues in relations between Moldova and Transnistria were discussed at a meeting of Transnistria President Vadim Krasnoselsky and Ambassador Claus Neukirch, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova.

According to the local media, the Leader of the region expressed hope that these problems will be solved in the nearest future and the protracted conversation can be switched to another way, since there are still many open questions to be solved between Transnistrian and Moldova.

Speaking about the banking cooperation, namely restrictions on the use of international payment systems Visa and Mastercard in the left bank of the Dniester River, President Krasnoselsky said that the problem “should be considered in economic terms”.

“We are talking about the social politics and violation of human rights. Transnistrian feel this especially acutely during quarantine restrictions – about 10 thousand pensioners – Russian citizens – cannot cash out Russian pensions in the region”, he outraged.

The meeting participants also discussed mechanisms for the constructive development of the 5+2 format and the need to resume the activities of working (expert) groups.

“The citizens’ wellbeing on both banks of the Dniester depends on stable and coordinated relations”, Krasnoselsky said, expressing gratitude to the OSCE “for the support and attention to the negotiations between Transnistria and Moldova”.
