EXPERT: TRANSNISTRIAN ELECTION IS MATCH WITH ONE TEAM

10 september, 2020

The upcoming parliamentary and local elections in Transnistria on November 29 "will be a match in which one team, the Renewal party, will play to the field to win these elections with a dry score."

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Politnavigator by the deputy director of the Institute for Social and Political Research and Regional Development (Tiraspol) Andrei Mospanov.

He recalled that as a result of the recent reform, the number of deputy mandates at all levels was reduced, in particular, the number of seats in parliament decreased from 43 to 33, and the voter turnout threshold was canceled.

"From a political point of view, the turnout threshold was an important mobilizing factor for both, citizens and politicians. In the conditions of the international non-recognition of the PMR, there are many ill-wishers who will ask: who do the Transnistrian authorities represent?" the expert said.

According to his forecasts, the future Supreme Council of the seventh convocation will be the "quietest" in comparison with the previous parliamentary structures.

He does not share the opinion about holding elections in Transnistria according to the party system or introducing a mixed model of elections.

"One can read on the website of the Ministry of Justice that 10 parties are registered in the PMR. But 7 of them are just listed there, in the register of the Ministry of Justice; two more parties are more likely dead than alive," Mospanov said.
