MOLDOVAN REINTEGRATION BUREAU REGRETS AT TIRASPOL’S INTENTION TO EXTEND SELF-ISOLATION UNTIL DECEMBER 1

17 september, 2020

Moldova’s National Bureau for Country Reintegration has expressed regret that the Transnistrian administration is extending the region’s self-isolation under the pretext of the COVID-19 pandemic, reads the Bureau’s statement issued due to the legislative initiative put forth by Transnistria president Vadim Krasnoselsky, who had proposed to extend the current restrictive measures from September 30 until December 1 “due to the growing coronavirus incidence and pandemic-caused death rate in the region”.

“Without belittling the danger of the epidemiological crisis and the need to protect the population from infection risks, the coronavirus should not be used in political interests and as a justification of human rights violation. The current crisis in the health sector is a serious ordeal for all state institutions, and their ability to interfere and get adapted to new circumstances cannot aggravate the situation of citizens who need to move from place to place”, believes the Reintegration Bureau.

It called on Tiraspol officials to cooperation in the sphere of sanitary-epidemiological control in conformity with World Health Organization recommendations, and on international partners – to draw attention to the human right situation in the Transnistrian region.
